Courts & Pints Moorhead (15 indoor courts, opened June 2025) is the largest indoor pickleball facility in the Fargo metro and the host of the North Dakota state championships. Fargo Parks Sports Center has 6 indoor courts (opened June 2024). Brunsdale Park brings 9 dedicated outdoor courts. The FM scene has transformed in 18 months.
Fargo has a humid continental climate with hot humid summers and famously brutal cold snowy winters. Reliable outdoor play runs May through September with peak conditions in summer (70s-80s). Winter is extremely harsh October through April with deep snow, sub-zero temperatures, and wind chill regularly below -30°F, shutting down all outdoor play for 6+ months. Spring is short and often wet, delaying outdoor openings into May. The FM metro's dedicated indoor footprint transformed in 2024-2025: Fargo Parks Sports Center opened June 2024 with 6 indoor courts, and Courts & Pints opened June 2025 in Moorhead with 15 indoor courts. Before that, dedicated indoor was very limited. Indoor capacity is essential for 6+ months of the year.
The Fargo-Moorhead metro has undergone a dramatic pickleball transformation in 18 months, going from very limited dedicated indoor capacity to two major facilities opening back-to-back. The marquee venue is Courts & Pints in Moorhead (Minnesota side, about 5 minutes east of Fargo across the Red River) which opened June 2, 2025 in the former Family Fare grocery store on 8th Street south near Brookdale Mall. 15 dedicated indoor pickleball courts (the largest indoor pickleball facility in the FM metro), a full restaurant/bar with three self-serve tap walls, coffee/smoothie bar, outdoor patio, 10 configurable event rooms, and Chinese-sourced soundproofing to muffle pickleball noise. Bronze membership is free with 7-day advance court booking; Silver and Gold tiers include court time credits and bar/restaurant credits with longer reservation windows. Director of Pickleball Chris Dew is also on the FM Pickleball Club board. Courts & Pints hosts the North Dakota State Pickleball Championships each September (a qualifier for the world championships in Dallas).
The other major dedicated indoor venue is the Fargo Parks Sports Center, which opened June 2024 with 6 dedicated indoor pickleball courts featuring a 4’ fence system between courts and complete spectator/waiting benches. Part of the 600,000+ visitors annually destination facility built in partnership with Sanford Health. Open Play open-1pm at $5/person (first-come, first-served), then reservation-only 1pm-close with 2-hour max sessions bookable up to 2 weeks ahead. Not membership-based - drop-in friendly, perfect for travelers.
The free public outdoor scene is anchored by Brunsdale Park with 9 dedicated outdoor courts (6 originally donated by Tom and Mary Brunsdale in 2017, 3 added in 2022) - the largest free dedicated outdoor complex in Fargo. Valley View Park (4 dedicated), Longfellow Park (4 dedicated), and Madison (4 dedicated) add additional Fargo Park District capacity. Rustad Recreation Center in West Fargo runs indoor and outdoor pickleball with leagues. The Fercho YMCA (Cass Clay system) and Sanford Health and Wellness Center add private fitness indoor capacity. Across the Red River, MB Johnson Park in Moorhead has 4 dedicated outdoor courts and the Hjemkomst Center has indoor courts.
The realities of FM weather are extreme: winter regularly hits -30°F wind chill from October through April, shutting down outdoor play for 6+ months. The dedicated indoor footprint that emerged in 2024-2025 is essential for year-round play. The FM Pickleball Club at fmpickleball.com is the central community organizing body, with tight integration to Courts & Pints. Tournament-wise, the ND State Championships at Courts & Pints in September is the marquee event, Courts & Pints runs the most consistent indoor amateur tournament calendar in North Dakota, and the USA Pickleball Midwest Regional rotates through ND venues. For visitors, Fargo pairs naturally with Sioux Falls (already a Dinkin city, about 3.5 hours south) and Minneapolis (already a Dinkin city, about 3.5 hours east) for a Northern Plains pickleball travel route.
