Sioux Falls has built up a surprisingly strong pickleball footprint for a metro of its size, anchored by South Dakota’s largest dedicated pickleball complex. The Linda Erickson Pickleball Complex opened at the Avera on Louise Health Campus (6100 S Louise Ave, at 69th Street and Louise Avenue) with 12 regulation-size dedicated outdoor pickleball courts, large parking, and public restrooms. The complex was funded by philanthropic community members and named for local pickleball enthusiast Linda Erickson. 8 courts are open to the public free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis, while 4 courts are reservable up to a week in advance for members through the Avera Sports Institute (605-322-3278).

The main indoor venue is Riverdale Park at 2000 E 24th St with 6 indoor pickleball courts. Free public access through the Sioux Falls Pickleball Club with Open Play during the school year only - Mon/Wed 6:30-9pm, Sat/Sun 1-5pm. Other major outdoor venues include Laurel Oak Pickleball Courts (8 dedicated outdoor at 3401 E 49th St), Terry Redlin Elementary (6 dedicated outdoor), and Spencer Park (6 dedicated lighted outdoor where the Sioux Falls Pickleball Club runs Organized Open Play All Levels Mon-Sat 8am-12pm). The Sioux Empire YMCA network covers indoor pickleball at multiple branches, Sanford Wellness Center and Avera McKennan Fitness Center add private gym indoor capacity.

The Sioux Falls Pickleball Club Facebook group is the central community organizing body (ask to join). Larry Plucker Jr coordinates organized play across multiple venues. The City of Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation (605-367-8222) manages the public outdoor and indoor venues. The suburban scene extends to Brandon (4 dedicated outdoor, 10 minutes east) and Harrisburg (4 dedicated outdoor, 15 minutes south).

The realities of South Dakota weather mean the long winter (October through April) shuts down all outdoor play for 6+ months. The dedicated indoor footprint at Riverdale Park (6 indoor), the YMCA branches, and private fitness clubs becomes essential during the off-season. Tournament-wise, the Sioux Falls Pickleball Club organizes the community competitive calendar primarily at the Linda Erickson Complex during summer, and the USA Pickleball Midwest Regional rotates through SD venues annually. For visitors, Sioux Falls is the practical pickleball anchor for the entire Dakotas-Iowa-Minnesota corner, pairing naturally with Omaha (already a Dinkin city, about 3 hours south) and Minneapolis (already a Dinkin city, about 4 hours northeast).
