Year-round, peak October through May
Indoor season
Limited; mostly outdoor courts year-round

St. George has one of the best pickleball climates in the country, with 300+ days of sunshine and mild winters that keep outdoor courts viable nearly year-round. October through May is the peak season, drawing snowbirds, tournament players, and the massive Huntsman World Senior Games crowd each October. Summer is the real challenge: June through September routinely tops 105-110°F, and midday outdoor play is dangerous. Locals shift to dawn (6-7am) and evening play. Indoor options are limited: Summit Athletic Club (14 courts) and The Picklr St. George (8 courts) are the two main climate-controlled options that get heavy use through the summer months. Many full-time residents keep an indoor membership for June-September and play outdoors the rest of the year.

St. George is genuinely one of the best pickleball destinations in the country, and it’s not particularly close. The free public scene alone would put the city in the top tier: Little Valley Pickleball Complex on Horseman Park Drive has 33 dedicated lighted courts including a championship court built for televised play, plus restrooms, shade structures, and free city-run clinics. The Professional Pickleball Registry named it Public Facility of the Year. Bloomington Park adds 7 more free lighted courts, Vernon Worthen Park (the historic birthplace of St. George pickleball in 2012) adds 6, and The Ledges adds 4. That’s 50 free public courts across four city parks, all open to anyone with a paddle.

Then Black Desert Resort opened in Spring 2026 and changed the equation entirely. The new 21-court complex in Ivins (15 minutes northwest of downtown) has a 1,000-seat championship stadium, heated and misted cabanas, ball-tracking technology, and the kind of architecture that blends into the red rock and black lava field landscape. The PPA now runs two events here each year: the Greater Zion Cup in late March (one of only five PPA Cups worldwide, 1,500 ranking points) and the Black Desert PPA Challenger in early May. Future phases will add 8 more courts. Black Desert effectively replaces the longtime Red Rock Open and gives St. George a permanent place on the pro pickleball calendar.

The Huntsman World Senior Games every October is the other big anchor: the biggest senior pickleball tournament in the world, held across multiple St. George venues including Little Valley, drawing thousands of international players to the city for two weeks. Add the Fall Brawl (one of the top-five amateur tournaments in the country) and the Southern Utah Pickleball Shootout, and St. George might run more total pickleball tournament weeks per year than any city in America. Indoor options are limited because the climate doesn’t really need them: Summit Athletic Club (14 courts) and The Picklr St. George (8 courts) handle the summer months when outdoor temps hit 110°F. The standard local move is to play outdoors October through May and keep an indoor membership for the brutal June-through-September stretch.
