Outdoor season
March through November
Indoor season
Critical June through August for heat, December through February for cold

Memphis has a humid subtropical climate with hot humid summers and mild winters with occasional cold snaps. Outdoor pickleball runs March through November with peak conditions in spring and fall (60s-80s). Summer (Jun-Aug) brings 90°F+ heat with high humidity and severe afternoon thunderstorm risk, driving serious players to dawn or evening sessions on lighted courts. Winter cold snaps Dec-Feb are usually brief. Memphis has notably less outdoor pickleball capacity than comparable Southern cities (only ~22 outdoor courts) but unusually deep indoor capacity (74+ indoor courts across 19 locations) including the dominant Pickleball 901, multiple new dedicated facilities, and a strong church-based community pickleball network.

Memphis’s pickleball scene has built up an unusually deep indoor footprint over the past three years, with notably less outdoor capacity than comparable Southern cities. The flagship is Pickleball 901, a movie theatre converted into Memphis’s premier dedicated pickleball venue with 8 indoor courts and a second floor viewing area. Memberships range $35-85/month with family plans available, non-members pay $12/person/hour. Pickleball 901 also runs an outdoor location at Poplar Plaza with 3 additional courts ($30/hour per court, $5 paddle rental, no membership required). One of Memphis’s newest dedicated facilities adds another 17 indoor courts ($99/month memberships, $15 drop-in, free Pickleball 101 class for newcomers) making it the largest indoor pickleball facility in the metro.

The Memphis Jewish Community Center at 6560 Poplar Ave runs 8 outdoor dedicated pickleball courts (one of the largest outdoor footprints in the metro) plus indoor basketball court for pickleball. The Kroc Center Memphis at 800 East Parkway South has 3 indoor wood + 3 outdoor courts ($3-5 drop-in for non-members, free for members). Willow Grove Farms in Cordova has 6 outdoor pickleball courts on 15 acres with individual, family, and corporate memberships.

Memphis’s pickleball community has a uniquely strong church-based network, which fills in for the smaller public outdoor scene. Christ Church Memphis (3 indoor, Mon-Thu mornings, free), Germantown United Methodist Church ($2-5 drop-in across the week), Hope Presbyterian Church (Mon/Wed 9am-12pm, free), First Evangelical Church (Thursday evenings, free), Church of Christ at White Station (Wed/Fri 9am-12pm with adjacent coffee house), Balmoral Baptist, Covenant UMC, and St. Luke’s UMC all run free or low-cost indoor pickleball programs. Riverdale Park has 3 free outdoor courts (BYO net, no lights), and the new Tom Lee Park on the Mississippi River will add 2-4 free pop-up pickleball courts on a 23,000 sq ft multipurpose riverfront sports court (pending USA Pickleball approval) - a signature future venue. Tournament-wise, Pickleball 901 runs the most consistent indoor competitive calendar. Memphis isn’t a regular national tour stop, but the USA Pickleball Southern Regional rotates through Tennessee venues annually. The scene is expanding rapidly across the broader Mid-South: Collierville, Germantown, Cordova, Bartlett, Arlington, Southaven (MS), and Olive Branch (MS).
