Outdoor season
April through October
Indoor season
Year-round, critical November through March

St. Louis has a humid continental climate with all four seasons. Outdoor pickleball runs April through October with peak conditions in spring and fall (60-80°F). Summer is hot and humid (90°F+ highs, frequent thunderstorms in June-August) and most serious players shift to early morning, evening, or indoor play. Winter is cold with snow November through February, shutting down most outdoor courts. The Missouri Pickleball Club's 18-court indoor footprint reflects the climate driving demand for year-round indoor access. Heavy storms can damage outdoor surfaces, so check court conditions after big weather.

St. Louis’s dedicated indoor scene is anchored by the Missouri Pickleball Club in Fenton: 51,000 sq ft with 18 indoor courts including 5 championship courts, one of the largest indoor pickleball facilities in the country. Open 7am-10pm daily, with a team of teaching professionals running free learn-to-play sessions and structured league programming. MPC also operates a sister location in Ellisville. For a metro of about 2.8 million people, an 18-court flagship is exceptional density, and it’s the venue that defines the region’s reputation for serious indoor pickleball. New Town Pickleball in St. Charles (15 dedicated indoor courts) and Paddle Up Pickleball Club in Lake St. Louis (9 dedicated indoor courts) round out the premium private-club options.

The Chicken N Pickle St. Charles location (1500 S Main St) opened December 12, 2023 in the Riverpointe development along the Missouri River. 76,850 sq ft with 11 pickleball courts (6 indoor, 4 outdoor with 2 covered), wood-fired rotisserie chicken, craft cocktails, a sports bar, and yard games. It’s the first Chicken N Pickle in the St. Louis area and the second in Missouri after the original 2016 North Kansas City location (the chain that invented the pickleball-plus-restaurant format). The newer Padel + Pickle Club in Olivette adds the unusual combination of pickleball and padel under one roof, one of the few Midwest venues with serious padel courts. Arch Pickleball & Badminton rounds out the dedicated indoor options.

The free public scene anchors at Tower Grove Park (4257 Northeast Dr) with 8 lighted dedicated outdoor courts, considered the crown jewel of free pickleball in St. Louis. Open 7am-10pm in warm weather with organized play sessions throughout the week. Tilles Park (6 outdoor), Wilson Park in Granite City IL (6 outdoor + 4 tennis with pickleball lines), and the Dwight Davis Memorial Tennis Center in Forest Park (small fee, paddle rentals, paired well with the St. Louis Zoo or Missouri History Museum) fill out the public capacity. The Missouri Athletic Club downtown offers 8 movable-net courts for member-club pickleball near the Gateway Arch. Tournament-wise, MPC Fenton runs the most consistent year-round indoor amateur calendar, Chicken N Pickle has added a steady tournament program since opening, and the USA Pickleball Missouri Open rotates between St. Louis and Kansas City annually.
