The Villages has 200+ pickleball courts across 40+ recreation centers, making it the densest pickleball community on the planet. Eisenhower (24 courts), Rohan (18), and Saddlebrook are the anchor venues. Court access requires Villages residency or a guest pass.
The Villages plays pickleball year-round. The peak season is November through April when winter visitors and snowbirds arrive and the courts get busiest, with comfortable 60-80°F days. Summer (June through September) is hot and humid with temperatures often over 90°F and frequent afternoon thunderstorms; locals shift to early morning and evening play. Most pickleball in The Villages is outdoors. Indoor options are limited (Truman has 2 indoor courts, Eisenhower and Rohan have a couple each), but the volume of outdoor courts and the year-round climate means indoor play isn't a critical need. Court reservations open 7 days in advance and prime times book fast during high season.
The Villages isn’t really a city. It’s a 55+ master-planned community of roughly 80,000 homes spread across three Florida counties, with its own town squares, town hall, hospitals, golf courses, and over 40 recreation centers. It’s also the densest pickleball environment on the planet, with 200+ dedicated courts across the community. The Villages has been called the Pickleball Capital of the World, and the math actually backs it up: at the annual Senior Games, pickleball routinely fields more participants than any other sport.
The court structure breaks down into three tiers. The nine regional recreation centers (Eisenhower, Rohan, Paradise, Fenney, Churchill, SeaBreeze, Mulberry Grove, La Hacienda, and Laurel Manor) anchor the largest complexes, with Eisenhower’s 24 courts and Rohan’s 18 leading the pack. The 23 village-level rec centers each typically have 4-8 dedicated pickleball courts, plus pool, billiards, and meeting rooms. The 30+ neighborhood centers round things out with smaller court counts. Most courts are outdoor with permanent lines and nets, lighted for evening play; a small number of indoor courts exist at Truman, Eisenhower, and Rohan for storm days. Reservations open 7 days in advance, and prime winter-season times book up immediately.
The biggest practical caveat for visitors: pickleball in The Villages is for residents and their sponsored guests. You can’t just show up and play unless you’re staying in the community (rental options are available) or you know a Villager who can sponsor you. For non-Villagers passing through, Lady Lake just outside the community has a couple of free public courts. Tournament-wise, The Villages Pickleball Club runs the biggest local calendar, with the Great Lakes Pickleball Festival at Eisenhower as the headliner, plus themed events like Good Neighbor Day at Paradise and the Valentine’s Day tournament at Rohan.
This is a working guide to where to play and what’s on the calendar. If you spot something wrong or out of date, send a note to letsplay@dinkin.app and it lands in our inbox.
