Miami's pickleball boom is real. DETA Pickleball Club in Kendale Lakes has 17 lighted courts as the county's largest. Sip & Pickle in Wynwood does lights-and-DJs nightlife pickleball, and The Fort in nearby Fort Lauderdale has 43 courts.
Miami is true year-round pickleball, but the calendar splits into two seasons. November through April is peak: snowbirds arrive, tournaments fill up, temperatures sit in the 70s-80s, and outdoor play is constant. May through October is hot-and-humid season with summer afternoon temperatures of 90°F+ and high humidity, plus frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Locals shift to early morning play (6-9am) and evening sessions on lighted courts. Hurricane season runs June through November and can occasionally close venues for a few days at a time. Indoor and covered courts at DETA and Sip & Pickle matter most during these months. Most outdoor venues have lights for evening play.
Miami’s pickleball scene built fast and built big. DETA Pickleball Club in Kendale Lakes is Miami-Dade’s largest dedicated complex with 17 lighted courts, $10-15/hour, advance booking required. Dink Club in Kendall (behind the Alper JCC) has 8 courts, weekly DUPR events, monthly tournaments, and a strong friendly community. Sip & Pickle in Wynwood is the textbook Miami nightlife venue with lights, DJs, and cocktails. Dinko Pickleball Complex’s bright pink-and-blue courts have become a signature look for the city. On Miami Beach, the Miami Beach Tennis Center (2301 Alton Rd) has 6 lighted dedicated courts open 7am-10pm. Miami Shores Country Club and Riviera Country Day School fill out the suburban scene south of downtown.
The free public scene runs mostly through Miami-Dade County Parks’ tennis-striped pickleball courts at venues like Tropical Park (12 courts). Coverage is steady but the dedicated public-pickleball-only court count in the city is smaller than the private and country-club options. For most serious Miami players, the routine becomes: free play at the public courts in the early mornings, paid play at DETA or Dink Club during prime hours, and Sip & Pickle for the social-night version. About 30-40 minutes north in Plantation sits The Fort, a 43-court complex that’s among the largest dedicated pickleball facilities in the country. Another 30 minutes north is Boca West’s new $20 million 20-court pickleball center that opened March 2026.
Tournament-wise, the APP Tour runs multiple events at The Fort each year, functionally the South Florida pro tournament anchor. DETA and Dink Club run year-round amateur tournaments. Miami has periodically hosted the Pickleball Slam exhibition events at venues like Hard Rock Live. The major PPA Tour calendar doesn’t have a Miami-proper stop, but the Proton Daytona Beach Open at Pictona at Holly Hill (about 4 hours north) is the closest big PPA stop. Most serious Miami tournament players travel to Daytona for that event, to Cape Coral for the PPA Cape Coral Open in February, or down to occasional Slam events. The scene is heavily snowbird-driven in winter and locals-driven in summer, with the schedule shifting accordingly.
